Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Fuel-cell conversion, in hydrogen powered engines, is the most efficient manner in which to run an automobile engine.1 The hydrogen is reacted with oxygen to make electricity, and the by product is water.1 Clean, simple, green.1
Hard to make small enough to fit in an engine-space.1 The fuel-cell is basically a battery, and like a battery the storage is vital.1 Hydrogen generator cell research has come far, but the battery life, so to speak, is still small. Hybrid engines, with both hydrogen cells and either traditional electric or gasoline powers, are making hydrogen fuel motors more viable.
One year into his presidency, President Bush announced a new program. The Hydrogen Fuel Initiative programs goal is to develop hydrogen fuel cell technologies to help make cars more eco friendly and economical. The first person to think of the Fuel cell was Sir William Robert Grove. At the time it did not produce enough energy to really be useful. Now many agencies and programs as well as everyday people are utilizing Hydrogen Fuel Cells, taking steps towards going green.
Fuel cells' only bi- products are water and heat. This is a far cry from the bi products of fossil fuels. A fuel cell allows the chemicals to continually flow so it will not die out like a traditional battery. With fuel cells the electricity will continue to be produced. A fuel cell will provide voltage and then power motors and other devices.
A Hydrogen Fuel Cell car has the ability to be up to 80% efficient. That is with Pure Hydrogen. (Hydrogen does not naturally exist. It must be made from Hydrogen compounds). There is a way to use non 100% hydrogen. Your car will need a reformer. It will help produce Hydrogen as well as other gases if needed.
